Rebated English Larch - Douglas Fir Featheredge Cladding
British larch/Douglas Fir has striking colour variations from pinks, browns to creams depending on which part of the tree it is cut. There are some dark brown knots which can loosen as the wood dries, this occasionally results in resin patches that may ooze a little at first and sometimes during subsequent hot summers. If left untreated, British Larch/Douglas Fir cladding fades to a silvery grey over a period of time and as nature does it's work.
As well as being a very strong and a very hard-wearing wood, due to it's super high resin content, British Larch/Douglas Fir can prove to be twice as durable as common pine. Highly suitable for cladding buildings in a traditional style and offers a cost effective alternative to our oak cladding options.
Our boards for the featheredge profile are cut on the diagonal, producing a tapered board that is overlapped when fitted, similar to roof tiles, thus giving that traditional featheredge finish. These boards in particular are rebated for the featheredge to fix flat for additional stability and improved weather resistance.
We offer the following section sizes:
- 150mm x 24mm reducing to 6mm at the feather
- 175mm x 24mm reducing to 6mm at the feather
- 200mm x 24mm reducing to 6mm at the feather
- 150mm x 28mm reducing to 8mm at the feather
- 175mm x 28mm reducing to 8mm at the feather
- 200mm x 28mm reducing to 8mm at the feather
Your boards will be supplied untreated. No treatments are required, however if you wish to preserve the supplied colour a little while longer or use a weather resistant sealant, please take a look at our Treatex range.
This cladding is for external use only. Please remember to make allowances for at least a 35mm overlap on each board (50mm is best) when making your calculations. Using rebated feather-edge horizontal boards for cladding, it is possible to reduce the overlap to 25mm but you should have a 2mm gap to allow for possible expansion of the boards. If your boards are exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.
Ready to fix and available in two options - First and Character Grade:
- First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.
- Character Grade will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.
The advertised price is per square metre and comes in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm unless otherwise specified for an additional charge:
- Set lengths up to 3500mm - £4.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
- Set lengths above 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
