Every rustic oak fire surround we supply is unique, and you’re not guaranteed perfectly square edges but our beams have been planed, and we stock various sizes. An oak mantelpiece can add a touch of class to a room, while it can work wonderfully in traditional or contemporary homes. Depending on the look you want to achieve, you may choose further sanding and oiling, and it’s important to know that once the PAR is applied you’re likely to lose approximately 6mm from its original size. The faces of these beams develop splits during the drying process, and that only adds to the individuality of these oak fire surrounds. Our craftsmen carefully use a highly effective tool on all the exposed edges to give the timber a rolling surface, while you can opt for small uniform adzing or a random waney adzing at checkout, depending on the finish you’re looking for. A roughly sawn rustic oak mantel can be ideal if you’re looking for a textured effect and we’ve developed a selection of surrounds to suit a diverse range of requirements.
