Redwood Thermowood V Tongue and Groove Cladding

Our Scandinavian Redwood Thermowood V Tongue and Groove Cladding is the ideal choice should you require that traditional 'T&G' look to your cladding project, along with the natural durability and stunning grain of Redwood, impeccable weather protection and a cost effective alternative to our oak claddings.

Our Scandinavian Redwood Thermowood cladding is the perfect cladding to use both internally and externally. Boasting a rich golden brown colour that fades into a dark grey/charcoal colour, it is a minimalistic and modern solution to cladding without the need for extra oiling and painting to achieve its aesthetic. UV oil can be used to preserve the golden brown colour if you wish.

Even though no additional treatment is required to Thermowood, as it is a modified wood that has been treated by heat in a kiln in high temperatures, it can be easily stained just like a normal planed softwood. This process dries out the core of the wood, getting rid of any moisture and resin within the board and brings the moisture content to around 7-10% with enhanced physical properties, making it much more stable than any other softwood. The process also means it has high resistance to decay and fungal attacks. As the drying process involves heat and water, this means that the cladding is chemical free and therefore a eco-friendly option to use compared to some of the other materials on the market.

Redwood Thermowood can be knotty naturally even after planing though it doesn't affect the material's durability, though we do advise that you should allow an extra 10% on top of usual wastage amounts as the kiln drying process can mean the cladding is prone to splitting. This does not affect the integrity of the cladding but it is something that needs to be taken into consideration as with all kiln dried softwoods.

Just like the classic T&G profile, these boards are fixed together by inserting the tongue into the groove. The chamfering at the top and the bottom of the boards accentuates the individual boards by creating a subtle 'V' shadow line along the joints. What makes this profile different from the Tongue and Groove profile is that these boards are reversible so either face can be used. Dependent on your style, they can also be fitted either horizontally or vertically; should you choose to fit them horizontally, it is recommended that the boards are installed with the tongue uppermost, this is to allow any moisture to fall away from the tongue.

This machined cladding is recommended for external use only. If exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting your boards, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Your boards will be supplied untreated. No treatments are required, however if you wish to preserve the supplied colour or use a weather resistant sealant, please take a look at our Treatex range. Should you wish to leave it to age gracefully, it will eventually turn to a beautiful silvery grey colour as the suns rays do their work.

We offer the following section size:

      • 140mm x 22mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 132mm

The face size is less 10mm to account for the tongue joint.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First and Character Grade:

First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications. See our Radiata Pine Thermowood options for First Grade alternative.

Character Grade will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.

This profile is priced per square metre and comes in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm unless specified for an additional charge:

      • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £4.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
      • Set lengths above 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
