Order Today, Clad Next Week

All the tongue and groove listed above are either stocked or machined to order within 5-10 days. Simply select your board, choose size, add to cart and checkout. Your order will be calculated according to your location. Normally it arrives after a week of shipping. Wall coverages are priced per square metre. The boards come in random lengths (from 1.8m to 3.6m), unless specified otherwise. Calculate your coverage area, add 10%, and that will be your order volume. Need assistance with the calculation? Give us a call on 01536 267107.

Why Choose Tongue and Groove From UK Oak?

As we manufacture the timber ourselves, we determine the milling tolerance. For tongue and groove to work correctly, the two should fit tightly into each other without any slack. Low-quality tongue and groove from big box stores are usually poorly made, with boards that won't sit tightly into grooves or grooves and tongues that don't have proper proportions.

We machine the timber using industrial planers with regular sharpening and consistent feed speed. We inspect the profile during machining. So, unlike low-budget cladding, your purchase will include well-made boards.

And because you are ordering directly from the manufacturer, we offer you our prices instead of retail ones. That means that the British larch external cladding that you can get in a gardening store for £28.49 per square meter will be yours for £40-50 or more.

Estimating the Quantities of Cladding

Tongue and groove cladding is sold in per square meter quantities. However, the coverage depends on the width of the boards, meaning that if you are planning a wide surface for cladding, you will need fewer boards. Boards of nominal 125mm width yield 115mm coverage once inserted into the groove. Just measure the wall area, increase the number by 10% for wastage, and calculate the order quantities.

The random lengths of cladding range from 1.8 meters to 3.6 meters long. However, if you prefer some fixed lengths (for instance, 2.4 meters throughout), feel free to contact us – the set lengths come at extra charge, yet we might find it cheaper for you.

View the options for tongue and groove boards, choose your type and timber, and place your order using the website. The lead times vary from five to ten working days. The delivery prices are calculated automatically at checkout.

If you need help choosing the timber or calculating the required quantities, call 01536 267107 or email sales@uk-oak.co.uk – it is better to send you the right quantity of boards right from the start rather than forcing you to reorder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between external and internal tongue and groove?
Freshly sawn (moisture) external cladding needs larger tolerances to accommodate movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity throughout the year. Internal cladding is kiln dried (less moisture) and has tighter tolerances since the boards will remain stable once installed. You cannot install freshly sawn boards inside as they will shrink.

Is it possible to use internal cladding externally?

Absolutely. The main reason behind not doing it, however, is the unnecessary expense. Kiln-dried boards have fewer natural qualities compared to fresh ones and are therefore a waste of money on exterior cladding projects.

How do you secure them in place?

There are two techniques here – secret nail through the tongue at an angle (the next board's groove covers the nail), and face screw (the fixing method). Both solutions are fine as far as performance is concerned; secret nailing simply looks neater and takes longer.

Does fresh sawn cladding shrink after installing?

Yes, expect a little bit of movement within 6-12 months as the boards lose water. This does not affect performance in any way; it is a natural process in timber. You may even observe slight gaps between the boards or cracks on their surfaces. Kiln-dried timber moves less.

Does tongue and groove require treatment?

External cladding: No special treatment is required for larch and Douglas fir (high durability). You can leave them alone if you like their natural look, or apply a layer of UV oil if you prefer the same colour. Internal cladding: Oiling or waxing makes your walls prettier, but is not necessary.

What is Thermowood and when should I choose it?
Thermowood is heat-treated timber with dramatically reduced moisture movement. Choose it when dimensional stability matters – heated rooms, bathrooms, conservatories. It costs more than standard kiln dried, but the performance in high-humidity environments is noticeably better.

Can I buy tongue and groove boards in set lengths?
Sure. Random lengths (1.8m-3.6m) come standard but set lengths (custom lengths) are also available upon request at additional price. Just give us a call, and we will send you a quote.

When can I expect delivery?
5-10 days typically. Depending on the product, you receive either in-stock cladding (shorter time) or cladding manufactured specially for you.

What should I do if I order the wrong amount of material?
Order 10% over the total wall area to allow for wastage and cutting. When in doubt regarding how many boards you actually need, call us before purchasing anything.

Can I see samples before committing to a full order?
Yes, we can send you samples upon request. Although truth be told, in the majority of cases people who want to purchase tongue and groove cladding already know exactly what kind of boards they need.

Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?
Possibly. If you're ordering large quantities (50+ square metres), contact us directly for a quote.
