Our Scandinavian Redwood Thermowood Shadow Gap Cladding is a perfect choice for both internal and external projects. Boasting a rich golden-brown color that naturally fades to a dark grey or charcoal, it offers a minimalistic and modern solution without the need for additional oiling or painting to achieve its aesthetic. You can, however, use a UV oil to preserve the original golden-brown color if you wish.

This timber is a modified wood that has been treated with heat in a kiln, a chemical-free process that dramatically enhances its stability and durability. The process dries out the wood's core to a moisture content of around 7-10% and gives it high resistance to decay and fungal attacks. While the cladding can be naturally knotty, this does not affect its integrity. As with all kiln-dried softwoods, it may be prone to splitting, so we advise allowing an extra 10% on top of your usual wastage.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First and Character Grade:

  • First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.
  • Character Grade will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.

End-Matching (Tongue and Groove) will allow you to place joints where they fall, instead of on the stud, allowing you to finish the job more quickly without sacrificing on quality and helps minimise wastage.

We offer the following section sizes:

  • 142mm x 22mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 122mm with 36mm tongue and square edges.

Priced per square metre and supplied in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm unless otherwise specified for an additional charge:

  • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
  • Set lengths above 3500mm - £12.00 extra per square metre exc VAT

The visible face size is 20mm less to account for the joint and the namesake shadow gap which measures at 16mm. Please note that the sizes are nominal and may vary slightly.

If your boards are exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Please be aware that sizes are subject to change in response to changes in moisture levels. Cladding will be kiln-dried to approximately an 7-10% moisture content prior to machining, but may vary between production and installation on site. Cladding will be dispatched at given sizes, but a margin of error should be used when producing cladding layout drawings for expansion and contraction in the timber.
