Fresh sawn English Western Red Cedar contains little resin and achieves it\'s renowned longevity by it\'s natural oils, it can be finished with any external coatings and will take those finishes very well. It will fade to a silvery grey colour as nature does its work.

The durability of cedar results from the naturally occurring thujaplicins, which create the distinctive aroma and are toxic to fungi. English Western Red Cedar is equally as durable as it\'s North American cousin.

Western red cedar is more stable than any other softwood, it rarely shrinks or twists.

Western Red Cedar has a very low density, it is therefore very light and easy to work. It has superb acoustic and thermal properties.

Please only use galvanized or stainless steel fixings, the naturally occurring oils in Western Red Cedar will corrode almost anything other.
BS EN 350-2 Western red cedar is classed as durable and does not require treatment for external use, as long as the sap is excluded. In the experience of most who use Western Red Cedar even the sapwood is very durable.

Western Red Cedar can be easily worked without splitting and readily accepts most finishes.
